Earn an Idle Free Sign for your School!

Your school is invited to participate in reducing vehicle idling by posting a “BC Is Idle Free” sign outside of your school! Here’s how to earn this valuable free sign:

The Provincial Government has Idle Free signs available for free through HASTE. Interested BC schools can order up to 4 signs, each of which measures 12" by 18". They are made of aluminum, digitally printed with reflective coating and anti-graffiti coating, and can be mounted on poles, fences or buildings using two pre-drilled holes. You can also request some Idle Free vehicle decals to help spread the word.

In order to qualify for the signs, we ask that you tell us about an environmental or sustainability learning opportunity or action you are planning, involved in or have accomplished and would like to share. This can take almost any form: a walk to school day, student-innitiated recycling program, etc. If you are developing a program, and are still getting your ideas together, check out the rest of the HASTE site for some great resources, program ideas and potential program partners.

For ordering standard idle free signs for municipalities, call the Victoria Distribution Centre 250 952 4460. For ordering customized signs for municipalities (adding bylaw info, logos, etc) contact Paula Peterson.

To compliment your new signs, consider:

  • Communicating the anti-idling message to students, parents and staff in your school
  • Checking out the project ideas on the HASTE site
  • Having a look at the Idle Free Cookbook for ideas on how to design and implement an anti-idling campaign

If you have any trouble with this form or require more information, please don't hesitate to contact us.

The Idle-Free Signs will be sent to YOUR attention.
Please provide a phone number you can be reached at during the day for delivery purposes.
