Destination Conservation (DC) is a practical, student-driven, activity-based program that brings environmental education alive in our schools. Working in partnership with the school district education and facilities deparments, 10 - 15 volunteer schools are identified in each district. In each of those schools cooperative team of students, teachers, principals, custodians and parents work together with Destination Conservation their District and other partners in this multi-year program to reduce energy and water consumption and waste production.
DC helps schools to reduce their environmental impact and improve environmental literacy by first helping them to identifying conservation challenges and then developing their own unique strategy to solve the problem in their school, at home, or in their community. Through the efforts of the students and adults that support their work, schools can save on average $2800 a year on their utility bills! This is tracked and shared back with the schools through the district facilities department.
Destination Conservation is currently running programs in Kootenay Lake (SD 8), Central Okanagan (SD 23), Vancouver (SD 39), Peace River South (SD 59), Greater Victoria (SD 61), Sooke (SD 62), Okanagan-Skaha (SD 67) and Fraser-Cascade (SD 78).
If your interested in becoming involved with the Destination Conservation Program please contact our office. First year funding is currently available in most BC School Districts.
