HASTe at ProWalk ProBike Conference
Every two years, Safe Route to School USA convenes at a National conference to share their best practices and lessons learned. Lucky for HASTe, we not only got to learn from our neighbours to the South, but also had the opportunity to showcase BC’s very own fantastic programs and initiatives! HASTe’s Community Programs Manager, Kerry Hamilton spent 3 days in Long Beach learning and sharing with peers: read about her experiences here.

Vancouver and Surrey step up
The Cities of Vancouver and Surrey are partnering with HASTe and joining BC's list of School Travel Planning (STP) communities.
In Vancouver, STP will form the backbone of the City's School Active and Safe Transportation Planning program. Led by the City's Traffic Safety Working Group and facilitated by HASTe, the program will involve six VSB schools in 2012/3. In Surrey, HASTe takes over the facilitation role previously provided by the City, and adds Cool Routes to School programming at two elementary schools.

Bike Pool makes a Splash
More than 40 students at Glenbrook Middle School in New Westminster BC participated in the first full scale Bike Pool pilot program in North America. The Glenbrook Bike Pool program is a partnership between HASTe and HUB, and is the logical next step after cycling skills and safety training; kids on the cusp of riding to school independently or with groups of friends get on-road experience and are introduced to best-routes in a safe, fun environment, chaperoned by trained instructors for a week on bike trips to and from school.
