"Get Outdoors" Environmental Pro-D - East Kootenays

Fri, 10/22/2010 (All day) - Sun, 10/24/2010 (All day)

October’s professional development day for Provincial Specialist Assocations is coming up on October 22nd, and CBEEN and EEPSA (the Environmental Educators' PSA) invite you to turn the day into a whole weekend at Get Outdoors in the Kootenays!, an unconference for educators interested in teaching in, about, and for the environment.  From October 22 to 24, join fellow formal and informal educators from throughout BC at the beautiful Blue Lake Forest Education Centre in the East Kootenay for a weekend which promises to inspire, build connections, and support environmental educators and the incredible work you do!

The unconference kicks off Friday evening with a panel discussion, A Vision for EE in BC, featuring special guest presenters from CBEEN, EEPSA and Simon Fraser University, followed by dinner, an EE slideshow where you can present your projects and programs, and time for networking and socializing.

On Saturday, following optional early morning activities and breakfast, you’ll participate in a series of workshops that build your capacity to deliver EE.  Learn about the Ministry of Education's Environmental Learning & Experience framework, participate in a hands-on Get Outdoors workshop and take home the curriculum guide, go for an interpretive ethnobotany hike through the fall woods, (re)discover CBEEN’s Wild Voices for Kids program, share ideas and questions during Open Space, and connect with other EE professionals in a relaxed, rustic, outdoor setting.  More EE presentation and a campfire sing-along will round out the night.

Sunday morning’s Open Space forum and debrief will wrap-up the weekend, sending you home with a pocketful of resources, an address book of new contacts, and a mind full of hope and inspiration.

Your $49 registration fee covers food, accommodation, all workshops and your 2010 EEPSA membership!

To register, contact the College of the Rockies at 250.427.7116 x 3752, or contact admin@cbeen.org for more information.  Don't forget to take a look at the attached poster, and please spread the word amongst your colleagues.

We look forward to seeing you and your friends there!
